Overview

The sacred chham dances are each festival’s centerpiece. For hundreds of years, the old sacred dances have been passed down from one person to another. To master the precise movements and positions required for the performance, monks must complete a lengthy training.

The lovely Rhododendron flower, which blossoms in the spring and covers the landscape in a blaze of pink, red, and white, is the theme of this event. The beauty of this flower is celebrated by the locals in songs and legends. 29 of the 46 Rhododendron species found in Bhutan can be found at the park where the event is being held. The festival day is marked by a stroll through the rhododendron garden, a display of artwork, traditional games and cultural activities, the natural lake, and yak rides.
