Druk Wangyel Tshechu
Druk Wangyel Tshechu
Overview
Unlike other spiritual festivals in Bhutan, where the monastic body and laymen take stage, the Druk Wangyel Tshechu is organized by the Royal Bhutan Army. This unique festival celebrates the army’s role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. Combatant dancers dressed in historical battle attire, pay tribute to both the courageous soldiers and the mystical Buddhist saint Jetsun Milarepa, whose mediation dances from the eleventh century are also honored.
